Hodja Yurt Ltd. was founded in 1994 by the forest owners of Hodja Yurt. The present owners are the descendants of Dimitar Kirov and Panajot Stoyanov, that were holding the forest with an area exceeding 800 hectares, from the beginning of the last century.
The forest is located in the eastern parts of Strandja, bordering the Black Sea, consisting of a magnificent oak trees, picturesque meadows with many herbs, mushrooms and game, typical for this part of the mountain. The name originates from the Middle Ages, when these places were mainly habituated by cattlemen, called – “Yuruks” who lived in a typical housing for them – “Yurti”. Some of the names in the forest still remain given by the settlers, such as “Goliama Yurta” and “Malka Yurta”. Until 1912 the old Bulgarian – Turkish border was passing through the crest of the forest which name still remains “Kamaka”.
In the past, felling oak trees was the base for the production of charcoal, which were exported by sea to sail today from “Tsarevo”. After restoring the forest ownership, it’s general exploitation was aimed at yielding firewood. Recently, because of ecological cleaning of the forest and the possible usability of dropped branches, dry trees and shrubs we have started producing eco briquettes. The production base is located in the lower part of the forest, near the road Primorsko - Yasna Polyana, adjacent to Devil's River.
